On Friday, an official from the State Department affirmed that it intends to remove the terrorist designation put towards the Iran-backed Houthi movement in Yemen, on the basis of the current famine ongoing in the country. The decision comes after the announcement that suspended US support to the military campaign in Yemen, led by Saudi Arabia.

The State Department official further stated that the decision is the result of the previous administration’s actions and its humanitarian consequences. The designation was regarded by the UN and other humanitarian organizations as a factor in accelerating the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, the official underlined.
