On Saturday, the State Department stated that Blinken and the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia held a phone call. During the call, Antony Blinken specified the new administration’s priorities: covering protecting human rights, and stopping the Yemen Civil War, the State Department added in its statement. Based on the same statement, another point discussed between the two counterparts was about counterterrorism, and cooperation to prevent attacks towards Saudi territories.

The phone call took place after the United States announced its intention to abolish the decision that designates the Iranian-backed Houthi group as a terrorist organization. Recently, the US administration has ended its support to Saudi-led operations in Yemen. This negotiation was the first between the two ministers after Antony Blinken became the Secretary of State.
