Former UN Secretary-General Volkan Bozkir stated that elections in Libya should be held in a fair, credible and independent manner

In statements made on his Twitter account, he also emphasized that the recognition of the election results by all parties and the exercise of authority by the new elected government in the country are important in terms of ensuring unity and integrity of Libya.

In addition to this, he stated that the elections should be held within a broadest consensus, which includes all relevant institutions in accordance with the Libyan Political Agreement.

Regarding the latest discussions on Libya’s contentious election law, Bozkir stated that the elections should be held on a solid legal basis.

Lastly, the former UN diplomat stated that the political process must be Libyan-led and Libyan-owned and conducted under the auspices of the UN.
