In the Gulf nation’s legislative elections, Kuwaiti voters started entering their ballots on Thursday. The opening of the polls was at 8:00 am. At 8:00 p.m. local time (0600 GMT), the site will close. (1800GMT).

According to the electoral commission, 795,911 voters are qualified to cast ballots in Thursday’s elections to choose 50 new National Assembly members. In the elections on Thursday, 305 individuals are running for seats in Parliament.

Invoking a political impasse between the executive branch and the legislature, Crown Prince Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Sabah, who has assumed most of the emir’s responsibilities, disbanded the National Assembly last month.

The National Assembly is the Gulf state’s legislative authority. It is mandated to observe the work of the executive authority and issue laws, which come into effect after being ratified by the country’s ruler.
