The White House issued a statement on Tuesday reporting that Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani would pay an official visit to Washington next week. Jen Psaki, the White House Press Secretary, stated that the visit will take place on January 31, 2022.
Within the scope of the visit, the Qatari ruler will reportedly come together with US President Biden to discuss regional and international issues of mutual concern.
The White House statement noted, “The visit provides an opportunity for the President and Emir to consult on a range of regional and global issues of mutual interest, including promoting security and prosperity in the Gulf and broader Middle East region, ensuring the stability of global energy supplies, supporting the people of Afghanistan, and strengthening commercial and investment cooperation between our countries.”
According to the statement, US President will also express his gratitude to Emir Sheikh Tamim during the meeting for the latter’s country’s efforts to provide a secure transit route from Afghanistan for US citizens and their Afghan partners.
“The President looks forward to this important visit and to affirm the strong partnership between the United States and Qatar,” the statement added.
