16 presidential election candidates, including Othman Abduljelil, Fathi Bashagha, Ibrahim Dabbashi, and Aref Nayed, held an online meeting to discuss the current environment around the December 24 elections.

In the statement made after the meeting, the candidates called on international and regional organizations such as the United Nations (UN), European Union (EU), and the African Union to support the elections in an impartial environment.

In the statement, the candidates announced that they support the efforts of the High National Election Commission (HNEC) to make the elections take place on the previously scheduled date, December 24.

In addition to this, the candidates, stating that all local actors should recognize the election results, invited HNEC President Emad al-Sayeh and his team to the meeting to discuss the latest developments.

The possibility of postponing the elections comes to the fore due to the ongoing debate on the candidacy and the disruption of logistics activities.

In connection with this, the International Criminal Court (ICC) announced that the arrest warrant for Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the son of ousted leader Muammar Gaddafi, continues.

Saif al-Islam Gaddafi’s objection to the annulment of his candidacy was accepted by the Sebha district court last week.
