On Wednesday, Kuwait’s Crown Prince Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah dissolved the country’s parliament and called for early elections.

In a televised statement, the crown prince said, “Based on our constitutional rights, we decided to dissolve the National Assembly constitutionally and to call for general elections.”

After finalizing necessary legal arrangements, the crown prince said a decree on the parliament’s dissolution will be issued in the coming months.

He further stated, “We decided to resort to the people to re-correct the political path.”

Amid a standoff with the parliament that hindered fiscal reforms, the crown prince accepted the resignation of the government and asked it to continue in a caretaker capacity last month.
