On Friday, the Libyan branch of the United Nations’ International Organization for Migration (IOM) tweeted that at least 1000 refugees were intercepted by Libyan coastguards off the coast of the war-torn country. Furthermore, the IOM indicated that the refugees intercepted were sent to detention centres.

The tweet posted by the IOM contains pictures of the intercepted migrants, while also maintaining that IOM teams were on the ground to provide assistance at disembarkation points. However, the tweet also underlines that Libya is not a safe port.
