71 individuals have now perished because of the sinking of a migrant boat off the Syrian coast, according to the transport minister of Lebanon on Friday.

According to Ali Hamiye, 19 individuals have been saved, and searches are still being conducted for the unaccounted for.

The boat that departed from Lebanon, according to Syrian regime sources, capsized off the coast of Tartus on Thursday.

Due to the exceptional worsening of the economic and social situations as well as the rise in poverty rates, there have been more attempts by Lebanese and Syrians to migrate illegally from Lebanon to European nations.

Since the end of 2019, Lebanon has been experiencing a severe economic crisis, which has resulted in significant currency devaluation, gasoline shortages, and medical shortages.
