The President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Menfi, discussed the latest developments in the political process in Libya with the members of the eastern region of the Higher Council of State (HCS).

In the meeting, the parties also considered the conditions of prisoners, particularly those on remand.

Apart from that the national reconciliation efforts made on Sunday and those aimed at holding the presidential and parliamentary elections by consensus among all parties were discussed during the meetings.

In addition to this, al-Menfi reiterated the need for law enforcement and respect for justice and human rights to assist the Presidential Council’s efforts at national reconciliation.

The Libyan presidential elections, which was scheduled to take place on December 24 last year under a UN roadmap, was postponed without any new date for the vote.

While the presidential and parliamentary elections are to be held simultaneously or one after the other, Libyan rival parties have been in disagreement over the voting timetable.
