The Prime Minister of Government of National Unity (GNU) Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh expressed his plans for the future in a letter he sent to the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).

Prime Minister Dbeibeh stated that he will remain in office until the parliamentary elections on June 30, 2022.

Dbeibeh stated that he finds the vote of confidence to the Bashagha government given by the parliament led by Aguila Saleh illegal and referred to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ statement of “respect for the decision of the 2.8 million Libyan people.”

In addition, “there needs to be applicable measures that lead to the formation of new executive and legislative bodies that take Libya to a peace and hope period,” Dbeibeh expressed.

He also said that the adoption of a constitutional basis for elections is critical for the roadmap, which includes a formation of the joint committee between the House of Representatives (HoR) and the High Council of State (HCS).
