Italian FM Di Maio discusses Libya with French, US counterparts

Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio discussed the latest developments regarding the postponed Libyan presidential elections with his counterparts, Jean-Yves Le Drian and Anthony Blinken

Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio had a telephone conversation with French Foreign Minister Le Drian on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged information on the transition process after the postponed presidential elections in Libya. The parties also affirmed their support for the Special Adviser to the Secretary General of the United Nations in Libya Stephanie Williams.

In addition to this, Italian Minister Di Maio had a phone call meeting with the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken.

It was stated that the parties expressed their opinions on the reorganization of the elections. It was also stated that economic and political reforms in Tunisia were supported during the talks.

After the announcement of the postponement of the elections in Libya, at the beginning of the week, the House of Representatives (HoR) listened to the Head of the High National Election Commission (HNEC) Imad al-Sayeh, on the reasons for the cancellation of the elections.

At the same meeting, the HoR reviewed the security reports submitted by the Ministry of Interior and the Intelligence Directorate.
