EU Spokesperson Peter Stano said that the EU supports elections that will take place on any date.

Emphasizing that December 24 is their first choice for the elections, Stano stated that the parliamentary elections should take place in the first months of 2022.

Answering questions of the press in Brussels, Stano announced that it is not appropriate for them to comment on the postponement of the elections, but that the EU supports fair and transparent elections under all circumstances.

Stano stated that fair and transparent elections will bring an important solution to the Libyan crisis and that a small team assigned by the EU to observe the elections arrived in Tripoli.

In addition to this, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio called on the Libyan parties and called for cooperation for the successful progress of the elections.

Di Maio stated that there is uncertainty about the date for the elections to take place and a clear framework for the elections should be drawn for the stability of Libya.
