Dbeibeh, Norland discuss solutions to avoid political rift in Libya

Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh and the US Ambassador to Libya Richard Norland met on Thursday in the capital, Tripoli.

The two were reported to have discussed the tense political atmosphere in Libya and the obstacles to the elections.

“The current political situation with a particular focus on preventing any outbreak of violence,” said Norland regarding the dialogue between Dbeibeh and him, in a post on his Twitter account.

Also “I urged the immediate re-opening of Libya’s airspace to domestic flights” Norland expressed emphasizing the importance of mediation efforts to help Libya maintain stability.

Last week, an armed convoy supporting Fathi Bashagha, who is backed by the Tobruk-based House of Representatives in Libya, departed from Misrata to the capital Tripoli on Thursday to force Bashagha to power.
