Bahrain assigns head of diplomatic mission to Israel

The long-anticipated appointment was materialized after six months, since the signing of the US-brokered normalization agreement with Israel.

On Tuesday, Bahrain state news agency (BNA) reported that Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa issued two royal decrees. By these decrees, Bahrain had established its diplomatic mission to Israel and appointed the chief of the mission, the BNA stated.

In accordance with the royal decree, Ambassador Khalid Yusuf Al-Jalahma was appointed as Head of Bahrain’s Diplomatic Mission to the State of Israel. It is known that Ambassador Khalid Yusuf Al-Jalahma is an experienced diplomat, who served as the Director of Operations at the Bahraini Foreign Ministry as well as Deputy Head of Mission at the Bahrain Embassy in Washington.

On the other hand, Israeli media reported that the appointment of the Bahraini ambassador was accepted during a phone call held between Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al-Zayani and his Israeli counterpart Gabi Ashkenazi. Besides, the Israeli media reported that, quoting Israeli Minister Ashkenazi, “The decision of the Bahraini government to appoint an ambassador to Israel is another important step in the implementation of the peace agreement between and of the strengthening of ties between the two countries.”

In January, Israel appointed a temporary head of its diplomatic mission to Bahrain.
