The United States military announced early on Wednesday morning that it had conducted airstrikes on groups with ties to Iran in eastern Syria.

“Today, at the order of President Joe Biden, United States military forces carried out pinpoint airstrikes in the city of Deir ez-Zor in the country of Syria. According to a statement released by US Central Command, the purpose of these precision strikes is to defend and protect US soldiers from attacks like those carried out on August 15 against US personnel by elements supported by Iran.

According to the report, the United States carried out strikes against “targeted infrastructure facilities” that were utilized by organizations affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The United States has taken measures against Iran, while the European Union has submitted a draft plan to resuscitate a nuclear deal reached with Tehran in 2015. The question of whether there were any casualties was not addressed in the statement.
