According to a statement by the Israeli Foreign Ministry, Foreign Minister Yair Lapid will hold talks with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Monday in Riga.

The meeting comes amid a phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, according to reports.

In their conversation, both leaders discussed Russia’s “special military operation” in Ukraine, according to a readout from the Kremlin.

One day after Bennett’s trip to Moscow, he received a phone call from the Russian president.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Israel for its support of Ukraine but did not mention Bennett’s visit to Russia in a televised address.

Many Ukrainian Jewish refugees have found refuge in Israel because of the country’s good relations with Russia and Ukraine. Many more are expected, the Israeli government has stated.

It is estimated that there are still 2,000 Israelis in Ukraine, according to the Israeli Foreign Ministry.
