The UN Special Adviser on Libya, Stephanie Williams, stated that it is possible to hold the elections again in June, adhering to the UN-brokered roadmap.
Williams emphasized that the elections are an important step in satisfying the demands of 2.8 million voters and regaining legitimacy for the Libyan institutions.
In addition to this, stating that the state institutions in the country faced a serious problem of legitimacy, Williams called for a reconciliation to the members of the House of Representatives (HoR) and the High Council of State (HCS), which will meet in Tobruk on Monday for talks related to the elections process.
“They have to shoulder a great responsibility right now to respect the will of the Libyans who registered to vote,” she said.
The Libyan presidential election, which was scheduled to take place on December 24 last year under a UN roadmap, was postponed without any new date for the vote.
