UN Special Adviser on Libya meets with political parties and Head of HNEC

Stephanie Williams, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on Libya, held meetings with a number of representatives of Libyan political parties regarding the postponement of the presidential vote.

The United Nations Special Adviser on Libya, Stephanie Williams, reiterated that “the UN will stand by the Libyan people in their demand for an electoral process to end the long transitional period.”

During meetings with some representatives of Libyan political parties, she stressed that national reconciliation and transitional justice are vital for Libyan stability. She also stated in her posts on her Twitter account that the demands of 2.8 million Libyans should not be neglected.

In addition to this, Williams met with the Head of High National Elections Commission (HNEC) Emad Al-Sayeh and board member Abdul Hakim Al-Shaab.

During the meetings, the steps to be taken in order to continue the election process in a strong way were discussed.

Reiterating her support to the HNEC, Williams stated that the holding of inclusive, free, fair and credible national elections in Libya is the only possible response to the demand of the Libyan people and the only path in reaching peace and stability.
