The Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Abdullah Bulaihaq, stated that the meeting held for discussing postponed elections was suspended.
He cited that to eliminate the compelling reason and set a new date, the HoR decided the High National Elections Commission (HNEC) should contact all parties around Libya.
On the other hand, the Head of HNEC Emad al-Sayeh said that some compelling reasons obstructed the elections.
He also pointed out that these reasons included conflicting judicial decisions and decisions taken after the time specified in the law, as well as some external threats.
At the meetings of the UN-led Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) in November 2020, it was decided to hold the presidential and parliamentary elections in the country on December 24, 2021, but the parties, consisting of the HoR and the High Council of State, could not agree on the law that would determine the legal basis of the elections.
