As part of the normalization between the two countries, Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz paid an official visit to Rabat, the capital of Morocco. Within the scope of Gantz’s first visit, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the two countries in the field of defense, which allows intelligence sharing.
The memorandum of understanding, signed by Gantz and his Moroccan counterpart Abdellatif Loudiyi, will allow cooperation in intelligence, military training, and many other fields.
In his statement on the subject, Gantz said, “We signed a memorandum of understanding in the field of defense, which will allow increased cooperation in intelligence, industrial cooperation, military training, and various fields. Israel-Morocco relations should be expanded and strengthened.”
Expressing that they discussed the developments in the Middle East and North Africa during the meeting with his Moroccan counterpart, Gantz added that he hoped that more countries would sign the normalization agreement with Israel.
Adding that the memorandum of understanding signed with Morocco is an “important step” in deepening relations, Israeli Minister Gantz thanked Moroccan King Mohammed VI.
On the other hand, Israel had opened a diplomatic representation in Rabat when Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid visited Morocco last August.
Gantz arrived in the Moroccan capital on Tuesday evening as part of an official visit from November 23 to 25, the first of its kind for an Israeli defense minister.
