US State Department announced that President Joe Biden’s Special Envoy for Climate, John Kerry, would pay an official visit to Saudi Arabia next week. According to the statement, Kerry would meet with Saudi government officials and business representatives to discuss steps to challenge the climate crisis.

US envoy’s visit is scheduled between October 24 and 25, the State Department indicated. Kerry’s Saudi visit will come before the UN meeting in Glasgow to address climate change that will start on October 31.

During his visit to Riyadh, John Kerry is expected to participate in the Middle East Green Initiative Summit, which would discuss steps taken to reduce emission, prevent desertification and grow forests.

The visit will come in the midst of a global initiative, aiming to reduce methane emissions by 30 percent by 2030 from 2020 levels. So far, more than 30 countries, including Germany, Canada, and Japan, have agreed to participate in the project. Those 30 countries consist of 60 percent of global GDP and 30 percent of global methane emissions.
