An official from the US administration stated that President Biden’s National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, had a meeting with the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. During the meeting, the two exchanged views on the ongoing war in Yemen.
The meeting came within the scope of Sullivan’s official visit to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Sullivan was accompanied by the US Special Envoy to Yemen, Tim Lenderking, as well as White House Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa, Brett McGurk.
In the meeting, Saudi Deputy Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman, a brother of Mohammed bin Salman, Interior Minister Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef, National Guard Minister Abdullah bin Bandar, and other senior officials were also present.
The situation in Yemen is accepted by the UN as the worst humanitarian crisis in the world. Seven years of clashes have wrecked all institutions in the country as well as pushed the nation into an economic crisis.
On the other hand, Biden’s adviser is also expected to be in Cairo on Wednesday to come together with Egyptian officials. According to a statement by White House Security Council Spokesperson Emily Horne, the meeting will focus on Libya and developments in Palestine.
