Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi headed a government delegation to Kuwait to discuss bilateral relations with the country’s leadership.
PM al-Kadhimi met with Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah as part of his official visit. The duo reportedly discussed the relations between the two countries and expressed “a determination to enhance cooperation in various fields and levels.”
Opportunities to strengthen regional relations and bilateral ties were also discussed, Kuwait’s news agency KUNA reported.
The two countries declared an intention to increase energy ties under the framework of sustainable development. PM al-Kadhimi called for Kuwaiti firms to increase their investments in Iraqi markets in an effort to improve industrial and commercial sectors.
He confirmed Iraq’s willingness to “overcome all difficulties facing Kuwaiti investments by enacting legislation and fighting corruption and administrative hurdles,” according to Iraqi state news agency INA.
“The doors of Iraq are open to Kuwaiti investors, and my office is open to any investor,” the Iraqi PM reportedly said.
PM al-Kadhimi proclaimed that improved relations with Kuwait is key in drawing up a regional road map.
Kuwait is expected to participate in a regional conference organized by Baghdad on August 28. Regional security matters and ways to maintain regional stability will be discussed during the conference.
