On Friday, Algeria and the US discussed the situation in Tunisia and Libya, as well as regional and international issues during a phone call conducted between Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
In a tweet posted on his official account, Lamamra indicated that he “received a phone call today from US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.”
The Algerian foreign minister stressed “having discussed with Blinken the prospects for developing bilateral relations between Algeria and the United States.”
Lamamra added, “We have also looked in depth at a number of regional and international challenges.”
The US Embassy in Algeria said in a statement posted on its social media account that Blinken “discussed a number of regional issues with Lamamra on Friday, including the latest developments in Tunisia, Libya, and the Sahel.”
The statement stressed that Lamamra and Blinken “agreed on the need for Libya to regain its sovereignty, stability, and unity, without foreign interference.”
The US Secretary of State renewed the commitment of his country to help Algeria to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic through a donation of vaccines, a direct emergency aid of more than 4 million dollars as well as the delivery of a field hospital.”
The Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs had made an Africa tour a few days ago which had taken him to Tunisia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Egypt, and back to Tunisia once more, where he transmitted a message by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune addressing his Tunisian counterpart, Kais Saied.
The Algerian President had previously made a phone conversation at the beginning of August with Kais Saied.
