Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman at the Sharm El Sheikh Resort on Friday, June 11. President Sisi wrote on his social media accounts that his talks focused on discussing ways to develop joint relations between Egypt and Saudi Arabia. In addition, Sisi emphasized that the leaders of both countries have a common vision on regional and international issues of common interest.
Sisi wrote in a statement on his social media accounts stating, “I was pleased to meet today with my brother, Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman. Our meeting focused on discussing ways to develop joint relations between our two countries. We also shared compatible visions on regional and international issues of common concern, and I affirm my permanent appreciation for the distinguished relations that link Egypt and Saudi Arabia at all levels.”
Relations between Saudi Arabia and Egypt, which are neighbors by sea, have strengthened in the areas of cooperation, especially after Abdel Fattah El-Sisi came to power in a coup d’etat in Egypt.
After the transfer of the Tiran and Sanafir Islands to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2017, which are located in the east of the Red Sea and belonged to Egypt since the country’s foundation, Saudi Arabia announced that it would provide economic aid to Egypt. It is also on the agenda of both countries that a bridge will be built between Saudi Arabia and Egypt over these islands within the scope of the NEOM project.
The first stage of the planned cross-border city, which aims to diversify the Kingdom’s economy and incorporates smart city technology, is expected to be completed by the year 2025.
