On Thursday, the US announced that Syria’s Bashar al-Assad failed to restore his legitimacy and overruled reinstating stalemates with his government “anytime soon.”
“Syria is a humanitarian catastrophe. The Syrian people have suffered for far too long under the brutal rule of Bashar al-Assad,” State Department Spokesperson Ned Price told journalists.
Price held that Al-Assad held power despite a decade of civil war that has distressed the country and commended the government to “change its behavior.”
“He has been at the center of the suffering of the Syrian people. We continue to believe that we need to find a durable political settlement,”. He further said that: “There is no question of the US normalizing relations with his government anytime soon.”
On the 10th anniversary of the Syrian Civil War, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also said that Syria has sunk off the front pages after a period of war and “yet the situation remains a living nightmare.”
Price held that the US would seek to upkeep the humanitarian predicament of the Syrian people and a political defrayal that would end the Syrian people’s anguish.
Syria has been emaciated by a conflict after 2011, at the time when the Assad regime splintered down on pro-democracy demonstrators.
As per UN approximations, millions of people have been slaughtered and more than 10 million have been displaced.
