On Tuesday morning, Israeli MPs passed the first reading of a measure proposing the dissolution of the 24th Knesset, or parliament, forcing the country to have its fifth election in three and a half years.
According to a statement provided by Knesset, 53 deputies voted in support of the bill at the General Assembly session, while no politicians voted against it or abstained from voting.
Wednesday was scheduled for the final readings of the measure to dissolve the Israeli parliament.
According to local media, although the coalition favors early elections to be held on November 1, the opposition side is pushing for elections on October 25.
Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid announced their agreement to dissolve the Knesset and call early elections on Monday evening.
If the Knesset passes the bill in its final readings, Lapid will lead a transitional government until the formation of a new Cabinet following the elections.
