On Thursday evening, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was received by Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud with an official ceremony in the city of Jeddah.

The two heads of state held a closed-door meeting at the Al-Salam Royal Palace. The Turkish president also met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The Turkish President Erdogan arrived in Saudi Arabia at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah for a two-day working visit. He was welcomed by Khalid Al-Faisal, the emir of the Mecca region.

Turkish Ambassador in Riyadh Fatih Ulusoy as well as the country’s permanent representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Mehmet Metin Eker were also present.

Due to foreign policy differences, Turkish-Saudi ties have been tense in recent years. Following the 2018 murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul, tensions rose in bilateral ties.
