On Wednesday, Iran arrested a 12-person crew and confiscated their ship in the Persian Gulf on suspicion of transporting illegal gasoline.

A ship “laden with smuggled petroleum” was confiscated near the island of Qeshm in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Mujtaba Kahramani, a top judicial officer in the southern province of Hormozgan.

According to state media in Iran, border guards carried out the operation and discovered 277,000 liters of petroleum on board.

However, Kahramani was silent regarding the ship’s ownership and the nationality of the crew.
