The UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser to Libya Stephanie Williams discussed the latest developments in Libya on Sunday with Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh and Fathi Bashagha, who was appointed as the transitional Prime Minister by the House of Representatives (HoR).

During the talks, Dbeibeh stated that he will strive to hold the constitutional referendum and elections within the year, adhering to the roadmap determined within the scope of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF).

In addition, Williams shared on her Twitter account that he and Prime Minister Dbeibeh discussed the HoR decision and the latest political developments.

Williams said, “We reviewed the process underway and I reiterated the importance for all actors and institutions to work within the political framework and, above all, to preserve calm on the ground in the interest of Libya’s unity and stability.”

Also, touching upon her meetings with Bashagha, Williams emphasized that the parties should act transparently and based on consensus for the stability of Libya.

In a parliamentary session held on February 10, Fathi Bashagha, former Minister of Interior and one of Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh’s important western rivals in the presidential elections on December 24, was elected as the new Prime Minister of the transition period.
