On Thursday, an Emirati delegation headed by the UAE National Security Adviser Tahnoun bin Zayed, who is also a brother of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed, paid a visit to Qatar. In this rare visit, Tahnoun bin Zayed was received by Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

According to a report issued by the Emirati state news agency, WAM, the two sides, “discussed bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation between the two countries, especially in the economic and trade fields and vital investment projects that serve the process of construction, development, and progress and achieve the common interests of the two countries.

During the meeting, the senior Emirati official delivered the greetings from President Sheikh Khalifa, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

The visit came as the first of its kind that a high-level official from the UAE visited Qatar since two countries, alongside Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Egypt, reached an agreement to normalize relations after almost four years of conflict in the Al Ula Declaration, which was signed earlier this year.

Officials from the two Gulf neighbors came together in Kuwait in February.

Although Saudi Arabia and Egypt named ambassadors to Qatar after the Al Ula Declaration, the UAE and Bahrain have yet to do so.

Meanwhile, this visit came after Tahnoun bin Zayed went to Turkey last week, where he discussed bilateral relations with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
