Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and Chairman of the Libyan High Council of State Khalid al-Mıshri met in the capital Ankara on Thursday, September 9. The two politicians discussed the latest developments in Libya, bilateral relations as well as the upcoming elections.

On his Twitter account, Turkey’s foreign minister stated that they hosted al-Mishri, who was re-elected as the Chairman of the Libyan High Council of State, in Libya. Çavuşoğlu also stated that their support to Libya will continue and that they want to develop mutual cooperation in every field.

Khalid al-Mishri was re-elected as the Chairman of the Council on Tuesday to continue his duty for an additional period of 4 years. Al-Mishri took office again by winning 73 of 128 votes.

In Libya, where a process of reconciliation has kickstarted after 10 years of conflict, the election date determined in the road map established by the UN is less than four months away. The UN-elected Government of National Unity (GNU), led by Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, who took office in March, aims to lead the country to the elections scheduled for December 24.
