On Monday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu extended his best wishes to Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi following the targeting of his residence by an explosive-laden drone.

The terror attack that targeted the residence of al-Kadhimi early on Sunday was “strongly condemned” by FM Çavuşoğlu over the phone, according to diplomatic sources.

The Turkish foreign minister also extended Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s wishes to the Iraqi prime minister.

The Iraqi army announced earlier on Sunday that al-Kadhimi survived an assassination attempt after the explosive-laden drones targeted his residence. Al-Kadhimi called for “calm and restraint from all for the sake of Iraq,” following the attempt.

The assassination attempt came as protests by supporters of the Iran-backed Fatah Alliance and Hashd al-Shaabi militia against the results of last month’s parliamentary elections.
