The Tobruk-based House of Representatives (HoR) accepted the cabinet of former Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha by a majority in the session held on Tuesday.

The cabinet was approved by 92 of the 101 members. Bashagha, who was appointed as prime minister by HoR in February, is supported by the HoR Speaker Aguila Saleh.

The 38-member cabinet consists of 29 ministers, three deputy prime ministers, and six state ministers.

Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU) stated that he did not recognize the Bashagha government before and that he would continue his duty.

In addition, while it was stated that some irregularities occurred in the cabinet vote of confidence, Dbeibeh issued a condemnation stating that the vote was fraudulent.

On the other hand, Bashagha stated that contrary to the allegations, the voting was made transparent and open to the public.

With the cancellation of the December 24, 2021 elections in Libya, the country was again divided into two.

The HoR, led by Aguila Saleh, appointed Bashagha as the interim prime minister on the grounds that Prime Minister Dbeibeh’s term of office had expired.
