Major General Osama al-Juwaili, Commander of the Western Region of the Libyan Army, has made statements on Tuesday, which were included in a post made by the Operation Volcano of Rage press unit. Al-Juwaili stated that, “if there are still people who see war as an option in the country, they will not flee from the war and there are some signs that the conflict environment will flare up again.”

Regarding the agreements between Turkey and the former Government of National Accord (GNA), al-Juwaili emphasized that Turkey was in Libya at the request of the legitimate government in order to repel attacks against Tripoli by forces of warlord Khalifa Haftar. Together with this, he added that he and other members of the 5+5 Joint Military Committee firmly rejected the request to cancel or freeze the agreements signed by the GNA.

Prior to this, on August 14, the 5+5 Joint Military Committee had called on the Presidential Council led by Mohamed al-Menfi to suspend international agreements.

Statements from the wing of warlord Khalifa Haftar in Libya, especially in the last period, revealed the possibility of a conflict environment in the country once more. Haftar had announced that, on the 81st anniversary of the Libyan Army, his forces will not be subject to any authority.

The statement was met with harsh criticisms from officials of the Government of National Unity.
