Within the framework of the Astana Process, forces of the Syrian regime and the military opposition exchanged prisoners on Monday.

According to local sources, five detainees were released from each side at the Abu al-Zandin crossing in the northern part of Aleppo province.

The move comes within the framework of the Astana Process and as part of a project established with the participation of Türkiye, Russia, Iran, and the United Nations.

Under the supervision of representatives of the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross and in accordance with international regulations, the prisoner swap took place as a result of Türkiye’s steps within the framework of its humanitarian diplomatic activities.

A similar prisoner exchange was conducted by the Syrian regime and the opposition on July 2, 2021, during which five detainees were released from each side.
