The Syrian National Coalition (SNC) called on the United Nations (UN) to strip the Assad regime seat in the international body and expel its representatives from the UN.

The political board of the SNC released a statement calling the international community to grant the Assad regime’s seat at the UN to the SNC given it is the legitimate representative of the Syrian people.

The statement said the officers have made a decision to communicate with the UN to take back Syria’s seat and give it to its real owners.

“Assad’s support to Russia, as well as its vote against the decision that condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in the General Assembly, confirms that Bashar al-Assad’s regime follows Putin’s,” the statement said.

“Such a vote does not represent the Syrian people who stand with the Ukrainian people,” the statement added.

The SNC considered the Assad regime’s seat in the UN as an “illegitimate matter” and an instant decision should be made as soon as possible.

“Assad is not a decision-maker and only implements the orders of Putin. This confirms that Syria’s seat in the UN is used for purposes that serve only Assad’s and Russia’s interests,” the statement noted.
