On 31 January, the First Vice President of the Sudanese Transitional Sovereign Council, Lieutenant General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, visited the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani.

During the meeting, Hamdan Daglo gave information to the Emir about the latest developments in Sudan. He also conveyed his appreciation for Qatar’s support, particularly the Gulf state’s attempts to ensure peace in Darfur. In the statement released by Qatar’s Amiri Diwan, aside from the latest regional and international developments, it is reported that they reviewed fraternal relations between the two countries and possible tools for improving them.

On the other hand, General Daglo also came together with the Qatari Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed Bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani. During the meeting, issues regarding the border dispute with Ethiopia and the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam were handled.

It can be deduced that Sudanese officials have intensified their contacts with Gulf countries, as the Sudan-Ethiopia border conflict accelerated. Last week, a high-level Sudanese delegation led by Mohammed Al-Faki Suleiman visited Saudi Arabia, as well.
