Last Sunday, a high-level STC delegation led by President Al-Zubaidi flew to Russia to discuss several issues. Significant members of the Council accompanied Al-Zubaidi, including Chairman of the National Assembly Major General Ahmed bin Brik and Secretary-General of the Presidency Ahmed Lamlas. On Monday, Al-Zubaidi met with Mikhail Bogdanov, Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Representative of President Vladimir Putin to the Middle East and Africa.

According to a statement released by the Council’s official website, issues handled included the Bab-al Mandab Strait and the Gulf of Aden, security of shipping lines, counterterrorism efforts, political and economic integration, and cooperation.

The Head of STC delegation, Al-Zubaidi, also affirmed the Council’s commitment to the aim to restore state borders to their original state, prior to May 21, 1990.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Bogdanov responded by saying that the Russian Federation supports Yemen’s political process, which can bring an end to the civil war in the country. He also added that Russia respects the will of the southern people.

In December, a new government was established, including ministers from the Southern Transitional Council (STC).
