The first batch of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine has arrived at the Mitiga airport in Tripoli. The first shipment includes more than 100,000 doses of vaccines.

The new Interim President of Libya, Abdulhamid Dbeibeh, welcomed the arrival of the COVID-19 vaccines through a post on his Twitter account, mentioning that it is ‘’the first drop of rain.’’ He also hinted that this first shipment will be followed by another one.

Almost three thousand Libyans lost their lives as a result of the pandemic, with a total of 200,000 noted infections.

The North African country, with a population of 6.5 million, pursues an electronic registration campaign for vaccination. The numbers of registration have not yet been made public.
