According to the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett spoke over the phone on Thursday about a variety of matters, including the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement.

According to a statement, the two leaders also discussed Russian Israeli contacts on Syria as well as issues related to the Israel-Palestine settlement. Putin also provided Bennett with an update on the progress of talks on security guarantees between Russia, the United States, and NATO, the statement said.

Representatives from Russia and the United States met in Geneva on Monday for the first round of negotiations, which was intended to “make views plain.” In Brussels, two days later, representatives from Russia and NATO discussed the security suggestions.

Meanwhile, on December 27, 2021, the eighth round of marathon negotiations between Iran and the P4+1, which include Russia, China, France, the United Kingdom, and Germany, to resurrect the nuclear agreement resumed in Vienna.

Tehran’s main demand is that the United States ease the sanctions placed on the country after its unilateral exit from the historic nuclear agreement in May 2018. The negotiations are focused on this issue.

Bennett has said that Israel will not be bound by any nuclear agreement with Iran and would continue to see itself as having the ability to act unilaterally.
