According to sources at the border checkpoint and in Egypt’s National Security Agency, Cairo has opened the Rafah border crossing between itself and the Gaza Strip until further notice.

News on the opening emerged on Tuesday, when the Palestinian Embassy in Cairo announced that the crossing was opened following an agreement, to facilitate the travel of Palestinians to and from Gaza, between the Palestinian and Egyptian leaders.

The decision comes a day after Cairo started hosting reconciliation talks between Hamas and Fatah on 8 February, in order to resolve divisive aspects of Hamas-Fatah relations prior to the legislative and presidential elections later this year.
