Qatari Culture Minister welcomes his Greek counterpart

During a two-day visit by the Greek Minister, ways to strengthen cultural relations, including launching a “Greece-Qatar Culture Year,” were discussed.

The Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni paid a two-day official visit to Qatar upon the invitation of her Qatari counterpart, Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali. During the visit, the two ministers discussed ways to boost cultural ties between the two countries, including an establishment of a “Greece-Qatar Culture Year.”

In a statement after the meeting, the Greek ministry said that the improvement of cultural relations between Greece and Qatar was at the core of the meetings. The Greek Minister also came together with the head of Qatar’s Museums Authority, Sheikha Al Mayassa Bint Hamad Al Thani. Lina Mendoni also stressed the Qatari people’s interests in the Greek culture in terms of both cultural heritage and contemporary artistic creation.

Also, it was decided at the meetings that both countries would exchange visits for International Book Fairs that would be organized in Doha and Thessaloniki in 2022.

Meldoni also visited Qatar’s new National Museum with the guidance of Chief Executive Officer of Museums Ahmad Al Namla. Besides, the Greek Minister gifted a replica of the Charioteer of Delphi to Qatar. The replica was placed in Doha’s metro station.
