According to local media on Sunday, powerful explosions were heard in western Iran.
Loud blasts were heard in the cities of Hanedan, Kermanshah, Kamyaran and Javanrud in western Iran, as reported by national news agencies in the region.
While the nature of the explosions remains unclear, certain sources close to Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard have stated that the sound of the blasts was the result of an air defense drill.
The explosions come amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel over Tehran’s nuclear program. No comment has been made by Iranian authorities on the nature of the explosions.
Similarly to this, a loud explosion was heard near the Natanz nuclear facility last month, but Iranian officials said that the blast was caused by a test of an air defense system.
