On Thursday morning, gunmen attacked Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh’s car. Dbeibeh and his driver escaped unharmed from this assassination attempt. After the incident in the capital Tripoli, local sources shared that many bullets hit Dbeibeh’s car.

In addition to this, it was stated that Kalashnikov weapons were used in the attacks. It was also stated that an investigation into the incident was opened by Libya’s Chief Prosecutor.

The House of Representatives (HoR) led by Aguila Saleh is trying to remove Prime Minister Dbeibeh from office and establish a new transitional government on the grounds that his term of office has expired.

Today, a vote for the new Prime Minister will be held in the parliament for two candidates, which also includes Fathi Bashagha, the former Interior Minister under the UN-recognized Government of National Accord (GNA).

On the other hand, it is known that some militia groups in the capital Tripoli are against Dbeibeh. These groups, which protested especially after the recent military appointments, went to a power coalition against Prime Minister Dbeibeh.
