According to a security source on Tuesday, a PKK terrorist sought by Interpol Red notice was neutralized in an operation led by Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization in northern Syria.

Engin Karaaslan, who also goes by the codename Haydar Varto, was neutralized in the Eli Fero region of the Qamishli-Hasakah main road.

The source said an armed unmanned aerial vehicle supported the operation.

The terrorist was the so-called central committee member of the PKK.

Karaaslan joined the PKK in the 1980s. He took personal training from Abdullah Öcalan, the head of the terrorist organization imprisoned in Turkey. The terrorist has also acted as the so-called Armenian representative of the terror group in the 2000s.

With this operation, Karaaslan has become the most senior member of the PKK terror group neutralized in Syria so far.

During its more than 35-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK killed at least 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants. The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US, and the EU.
