Wearing a black mask emblazoned with the message “End Apartheid,” the Palestinian envoy to the United Nations pleaded with the Security Council to stop Israel from discriminating against Palestinians.

Riyad Mansour referred to “apartheid” 15 times during a monthly discussion on the Middle East and urged the Council to safeguard “our long-suffering people.”

Israeli apartheid has been a part of Palestinian life “for a long time,” Palestinian envoy Riyad Mansour said.

Israel may be offended by the phrase, but “everyone else should be offended by the policy,” Mansour added. A condemnation alone would not be enough to stop Israel from acting, he asserted.
