On Thursday, Khalifa Haftar, the leader of the Tobruk-based Libyan National Army (LNA), expressed his support for the newly-elected Libyan interim government, which seeks to lead the country towards a general election on 24 December. A statement from his office stated that the military commander met with the Head of the Presidency Council Mohammad Younes Menfi to share his support to the peace process and the peaceful transition of power.

A new interim government was elected in Libya by the UN-supported Libyan Political Dialogue Forum in Geneva, on 5 February. In the aftermath of said elections, a new interim government, composed of three Presidential Council members and a new Prime Minister, was chosen by 75 participants. The newly-elected interim government’s mandate is to lead Libya towards a general election set for December.
