Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan took part in the country’s unveiling of its national space program, aiming to conduct unmanned lunar expeditions by the year 2023. In the official unveiling, the Turkish President announced other aims of the program, which include establishing a spaceport, and sending a Turkish citizen to space for the first time.

The Turkish President announced that approximately $300 million was provided by the government to conduct 56 projects that concern equipment related to satellites, launching systems and space, within the context of the program.
